The New Generation! Opening Movie and Voice Samples

St. Michael Girls’ School published the opening movie for A Kiss For The Petals – The New Generation! on 21 May 2015, as well as four voice samples for each character on the character information page.

On 15 May, the full voice cast was revealed:

  • Onohara Hazuki: 田中理々 Tanaka Lili (Twitter: @tanakalili)
  • Suou Manami: 椎那天 Shiina Amane (Twitter: @shiina_amane)
  • Kimishima Aya: 柚木サチ Yuzuki Sachi (Twitter: @yuzukisachi)
  • Kimishima Ai: 椿乃なお Tsubakino Nao (Twitter: @tsubakinonao)
  • Takahata Rina: 綾瀬とまり Ayase Tomari
  • Misawa Nagisa: 三日月一花 Mikazuki Ichika

Tanaka Lili is able to communicate in English. I encourage Twitter users to congratulate her and inform her of the series’ international following.

Tsubakino Nao is a known voice actress for extra roles in past visual novels and is now performing in a lead role, similar to Manazuru Kou, who voices Houraisen Rena and extra characters.

One of the standout moments of this video is at 1:17, which shows Manami’s internet persona “MANA”. It has not been mentioned since the initial reveal inDengeki Hime’s December 2014 issue.

The New Generation! Voice Roles and Theme Song

From 13-28 February, St. Michael Girls’ School held an audition for the roles of Hazuki and Manami in A Kiss For The Petals – The New Generation!  On 24 April, the selected actresses were revealed: Hazuki will be played by Tanaka Riri (田中理々, Twitter: @tanakalili), and Manami by Shiina Amane (椎那天, Twitter: @shiina_amane). Rather than traditional voice samples in-character, the voice samples provided in the above link are recorded messages from the two actresses.

Unusually, this casting for the lead roles was done after the release date of 26 June was announced, and rather late in the visual novel’s development. Additionally, the audition was open to all applicants and all ages, but the roles were ultimately awarded to established performers. No information has been provided to clarify these extraordinary circumstances.

In addition to these roles as the primary characters, Riri and Amane perform the visual novel’s opening theme, “New Generation”. This song was produced by Anzu Hana and is the first visual novel theme to not be performed by her. According to her tweets  following the announcement, she was offered this role after unsuccessfully auditioning for a lead role herself. On 1 May, the theme song was uploaded to YouTube.

English translation: Hanahira!

Hanahira! English translation

A full translation of the visual novel Hanahira! (はなひらっ!) as well as the accompanying light novel Hanahira Side Story! Nagisa’s Rowdy Girls (はなひらSSっ! 渚のかしまし娘たち Hanahira SS! – Nagisa no Kashi Mashi Musume-tachi) has been released by George Henry Shaft on 17 April. These were translated independently and packaged as a single download.

Because these translations were not produced by Petals’ Garden or Yuri Project, support questions and feedback on translation should be posted on the release page at George Henry Shaft’s website.

St. Michael Girls’ School published a character relationship chart for A Kiss For The Petals – The New Generation! on 8 April. It has been translated into English by Seiyuuri and Ralen.

Of note is that Hazuki has links to all other characters, who have only two or three each. This makes it rather clear that she will be the primary point of view character.

For more information, see this post.

Petals’ Garden on Tumblr

As part of an effort to expand coverage of A Kiss For The Petals to broader audiences, I have opened a Tumblr website as an extension of this blog at It will contain samples of all news posts on this site as well as snippets of past translations, more frequent fanart posts, and other exclusive content. As a result, it is designated as an adult-oriented website, unlike Petals’ Garden proper.

Visual novel release: A Kiss For The Petals – For Old Times’ Sake (iOS, Android)

A Kiss For The Petals - For Old Times' Sake title screen; Android version shown.

St. Michael Girls’ School has released A Kiss For The Petals – For Old Times’ Sake (その花びらにくちづけを 出会った頃の思い出に Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke wo – Deatta Koro no Omoide ni) on iOS 6.0 and later and Android 2.3 and later devices today.  On Android, the app is a free trial including a small portion of the story and requires an initial download. The full version is provided as an in-app purchase and initiates an additional download, totaling approximately 300 MB of data to the SD card. No free version is available for iOS.

The price is 500 yen on both platforms. The title screenshot above is of the Android version, which I was able to download and upgrade with my USA-based Google account without issue. Currency conversions are calculated on purchase of the in-app upgrade; the price for me was $3.80 USD as of this writing.

However, the iOS version requires a Japanese Apple ID to download, which requires a Japanese credit card or Japanese gift cards to add funds. Instructions are available to change an existing account’s region or to create a new account for the Japanese store. A 500 yen gift card will be sufficient to download the app. YuriBook Pro recommends Japan Codes for obtaining them, but at this time, many of the lower denominations are out of stock. Nihongo Pera Pera also sells Japanese gift cards, but at a higher price.

Additionally, on both platforms, the app is classified at the highest maturity ratings available, so accounts restricted by parental controls may not be able to access them.

Fanart: Yuuna x Nanami Pillow Talker

Yuuna x Nanami Pillow Talker

Yuriwhale (deviantART, Pixiv) continues the Pillow Talker series of 4-koma doujinshi with Nanami and Yuuna, instead of the remaining Angel couples as expected. The Pillow Talker series features heightened sexual content compared to Yuriwhale’s previous series, Table Turner. Like Table Turner, these stories use no dialogue. This installment includes six pages on deviantART and Pixiv. Note that in the deviantART gallery, the pages are in reverse order.

Yuri Clock (Android 4.0, iOS 6)

Yuri Clock Screenshot

On 27 February 2015, St. Michael Girls’ School released the Yuri Clock app (百合時計 Yuri Dokei) announced as an incentive for 5,000 Twitter followers. It is published by Moeapp, which also published the mobile phone versions of Hanahira!

It is a free download on the Play Store for Android versions 4.0 and later internationally and on the Japanese App Store for iOS 6.0 and later. I was able to download the Android version from my USA-based account without issue, but as it is rated “high maturity”, accounts with parental controls may not be able to access it. On 3 March 2015, St. Michael Girls’ School announced that the initial version of the Yuri Clock for iOS was denied publication by Apple for what they judged to be questionable content. It was released in an altered form on 20 March 2015.
