When I discovered that a mostly completed English script for this game was posted at Wings of Yuri, I declared on 27 March 2010 that I would do whatever it takes to have this game translated into English for real. After more than a year of combined work, the first public version of the English patch is ready.

Note that this patch is incompatible with the remake version of the visual novel released on 28 July 2011 at this time. Compared to the remake of Joined In Love With You, extensive internal changes were made for this remake. Compatibility with this remake will require a rewrite of this patch.
Be sure to check out the message window mod if you want a smaller text box or no box at all.
Instructions
Get the game first if you don’t already have it: Kissing the petal 2 My dear prince. Windows XP users will need to install East Asian language support as well. No further assistance will be provided for these steps. The translated game can also run under Linux using Wine after applying the fix posted here. If you install this patch under Linux, please post a report with your versions of Linux and Wine.
This patcher contains the translated script and graphics. It will work on both the disc and digital versions of the game. Unlike the previous translation patch, this will overwrite program files directly, so make backups of HANABIRA2.exe, MSD, and MGD if you want to keep the original Japanese files.
It is recommended that you install the game with its own Setup first if possible. If you have administrative rights, the patcher will attempt to autodetect the game’s location in this order:
- Check for HANABIRA2.exe in the directory it was launched in. If the game is found here, it will perform one-click patching and not prompt for any information.
- Check the registry for information left by the game’s own installer. If the path in the registry is valid, you will be asked to move the files from the original Japanese path to an English path (see below).
- If registry information was not found, check C:\Program Files\ふぐり屋\その花びらにくちづけを わたしの王子さま and C:\Program Files\‚Ó‚®‚艮\‚»‚̉Ԃтç‚É‚‚¿‚¯‚ð@‚킽‚µ‚̉¤Žq‚³‚Ü (the default path if the game was installed in an English locale). If HANABIRA2.exe is found in either of these places, you will be asked to move the files.
If the game is not found in any of these locations, the patcher will prompt you to point to the location of HANABIRA2.exe.
AppLocale Workaround
Patches to the EXE included in the patcher allow internal message boxes and the window caption to be displayed in English. As a side effect, you do not need to run the patched game with AppLocale or change your system locale. However, the game files must be in a directory without Japanese characters. If your system locale is non-Japanese, the patcher can move the files automatically (by default into C:Program FilesFuguriyaA Kiss For The Petals – My Dear Prince). This is recommended only if you installed the game normally. You should also move them if the files are located in a path with Japanese characters, but it is not recommended or necessary otherwise. If the game was not installed normally and is in a path with Japanese characters, you should not move them into the default location. Because this workaround is not necessary in a Japanese locale, the option will not be available in that case. This is strictly for convenience and has no effect on the patch itself.
Shortcuts
After patching is finished, the patcher will then look for shortcuts in the Start Menu, Desktop, and Quick Launch and replace them with shortcuts that point to the new path if one was specified. Note that new shortcuts will not be created where they did not exist before and that they will only apply for the current user. The game’s installer places shortcuts in all profiles individually, and the patcher cannot account for these. Information in the registry, if it exists, will also be updated to point to the new path so that the game’s uninstaller will still work. Note that the uninstaller will not remove the new shortcuts. The patcher will not create an uninstaller of its own.
For Users Without Administrative Privileges
All of the above features are available only if you run the patcher as an administrator. If you run the patcher in a limited user profile, it cannot autodetect installations, write to the registry, or create or delete shortcuts. The patch’s contents are otherwise identical. If you can’t or won’t run the patcher as an administrator, download the noadmin build, but only if the normal version does not work.
Playing The Game
The patched game will work with your system file (CONFIG.SAV), so your options and Extra menu data will be preserved. However, there is a chance that your save files from the unpatched game will cause the game to crash. In this case, your only option is to start the game from scratch. You can hold down Ctrl instead of the Skip button to temporarily skip lines for greater control.
As in the first game, if you make any wrong decisions in the branches, the game will prematurely end after the 12th section. If this is the case, the game will return to the title screen without warning or showing the credits. (As a consolation, the termination point is somewhat more tasteful.) If you didn’t save often enough, you will need to restart the game from the beginning and make different choices. The Skip function will prove useful in this task.
Notes
This game’s subtitle “わたしの王子さま” is sometimes transliterated as “Watashi no Oujiko-sama“. As far as I can tell (by cross-referencing multiple dictionaries), this is incorrect. The correct transliteration is “Watashi no Ouji-sama“, which can be literally translated to “My Prince”. See below for why this translation was not used.
The title was chosen based on two factors:
- To keep with the tradition set by the first translation, the main title “A Kiss For The Petals” was retained.
- On English DLsite, the original game is listed as “Kissing the petal 2 My dear prince“. Fuguriya endorsed the English DLsite storefront on a news post dated 2007/07/05 while acknowledging that the contents are unchanged although the page is in English (archive). This subtitle also balances the main title better on the logo, so it was chosen over the literal translation.
If possible, please buy the original game if you did not already. At writing, the retail price on English DLsite is ¥1,785, equivalent to approximately $22 USD/€16 EUR/£14 GBP. If you want to donate, please direct it to the developers instead by buying their products. I know a lot of people won’t even if I ask, but it’s worth a try to increase sales along with exposure.
I encourage all translators with an interest in this series to contact me if they want to try their hand at patching. I will assist in any way I can. I’m particularly interested in the light novels and drama CDs (especially the fourth one, which I currently can’t obtain legitimately or otherwise). Just make sure you can keep up with the strenuous pace that a full translation demands. If you’ve never done a translation for a visual novel before, it can and will take much longer than you think it will.

Mistaking 王子 for “oujiko” is a very basic mistake. 王 is “ou” and 子 is “ji” hence “ouji” however the “ji” only applies when 子 is combined with other kanji into a single word. Used by itself, 子 is pronounced “ko”. Just a lesson for the Japanese n00bs out there.
I think “Oujiko” might have been intentional? In that, it’s not technically correct Japanese, but 王子 (“ouji”) means “prince” (i.e. male) and 子 (“-ko”) is also generally a female name suffix, so it might have been kind of a play on words.
The spoken dialogue disagrees.
王 = King 子 = child, put them together and you get a king child, also known as a prince, oujiko is just plain wrong. Its spelled 王子 for the normal variety of male prince too.
Ever heard people say otoko no ko and though they were talking about a female because of the ko part?

Hmmm… I doesn’t seem to work for me. The patcher prompts to “check the status of C:Program Filesふぐり屋その花びらにくちづけを わたしの王子さま.” I have my system locale in Japanese and my computer runs windows7.
Are you running the patcher as an administrator? You might have to do this manually by saving the file and right-clicking on it to get the option to do so.
I ran the patch as an administrator but still got the error. The full error reads: “File patching failed! Check the status of C:Program Filesふぐり屋その花びらにくちづけを わたしの王子さまHANABIRA2.exe and try again.”
You’re using a modified copy of the EXE. The patcher will only accept the original version of the EXE.
Download this EXE and replace the one you have, then run the patcher again.See the instructions under the download links.Now, it seems that the exe is not there… I’m really sorry for bugging you like this.

I’m assuming that you got a modified version of the EXE from the internet and replaced your original with it. To save space, the patcher does not include the EXE itself and instead patches your own copy, but it will only accept an unmodified file (as noted in the instructions). The page has been updated to include a download for an EXE that the patcher will generate; this file is ignored by the patcher so that it can process the rest of the files. Future patches will include the EXE to avert this issue if it’s widespread.

An updated version was uploaded that avoids the “File patching error” pertaining to HANABIRA2.exe. Out of curiosity, if you did get this error, did you do anything to that file in the past or replace it completely? My first assumption was that those getting this error downloaded the text dumping version on this page, which the patcher rejected. How many people using the patcher downloaded this version of the EXE?

I was getting this error, then I remembered that last time I played I done ctrl+c ctrl+v the second game on the files of the first game and worked.

Download the patcher and save it in the directory the game is in. You won’t be asked anything when you run it this way.
I think I tried that. I was supposed to put this in the file full of the games stuff right? There is a problem with that. The game is rar file and I can’t patch in it after i open it with winrar
You have to extract the RAR file, then install the game and run the patcher (making sure it is not in the folder you extracted the RAR). Alternatively, put the patcher in the directory you extracted to and run the game from there.

This error appears because the MSD file is missing. Did you install the game first? Did you check the box in the second page to move the files?

Got a big problem : i have saved my game sometimes, but now i cant access to the saved game anymore : i got an error message with ununderstable signs.

Let me see your save files. What I meant by that is that the save files imported from the game before it was patched may not work after the patch is applied.

I get this error after I try to load my save file. The patch was loading fine until I exited. Then I had to repatch or it would remain in Japanese. Thereafter I encounter this error.

The EXE was modified so that you don’t have to change any language settings. Just install the game normally and then run the patcher.

HANABIRA2.exe might be set to read-only. Send me a screencap of the error and the install log.
I updated the patcher to version 2.1. If you’re having problems with the old one, try the new version.

It’s not really a error per se, i think it’s that if i move to a different tab/screen/program on my pc, the program will freeze and close.
There’s no reason the patch would cause that. What version of Windows are you using? Does this happen with an unpatched copy?

I have a small problem though. I’ve always encountered this while using Windows 7. It seems like Fuguriya’s games aren’t compatible with it.
Whenever I alt + tab, and go back, the game always freezes. Not that it’s much of a bother since all I have to do is save exit it when I need to do something else right? But I guess it could still get a bit troublesome when you accidentally alt + tab and you haven’t saved. xD
I was thinking that maybe, your version encoding could solve the issue or something. But if not, it’s okay as well. =D
I also tried using the compatibility settings for Windows 7, I’ve only known this to run properly with XP so I tried in all versions, but to they’re still the same. =/

I’m on Windows 7 myself and I’ve never had this problem. I don’t know what would cause it, but the patch is unrelated to it.
Actually, I have Window 7 and I also have this problem. The screen will always freeze whenever The game window is in the background for more than 30 seconds. I also have the exact same problem with the first game too.. It doesn’t really matter since you can still play the game, but it’s still pretty annoying.
I too have this problem running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. If I alt tab for a bit the game freezes as stated above. I have also noticed that the game sometimes stutters or refreshes itself while I am playing. I tried redownloading and reinstalling everything but that did not fix it either. I tried installing it on a computer running Windows XP and it worked fine. Any suggestions/explanations?
Set the program’s compatibility mode to Windows XP. If you mean that the music stutters after switching windows, this is unavoidable on Windows Vista and above.
I have encountered a problem when extracting this patch.

This isn’t an error, it’s just a notice that the folder that files were moved from had extra files that don’t affect the game. They’re probably DirectX files or something similar. The patch will work if you got to the finish page. Since you’re on version 1, you really should download the MSD link above.

Works fine, although incase anybody has the same problem as me….the game freezes at the start if your audio isn’t working correctly (eg you play something in your media player and it doesn’t output properly/plays up)

I downloaded the game and tried to patch it. It keeps telling me to find the source. I clicked everything and it still won’t show Next. Please help!
The patcher looks for a file named HANABIRA2.exe. If the directory you specify does not have such a file, it will not continue.
Try moving the patcher into the same folder as the game itself before running it.
Alternatively: I renamed the exe file. Installed the patch. Patch got blocked by anti-virus. Patch stopped installation. Installed patch after de-blocking. Patch installed. Couldn’t start game. Ran the setup again. Worked in English.
No idea what I did. Had random symbols all over the place.

I’m guessing you use Symantec since it’s the only one out of 43 anti viruses that detected anything. It’s definitely a false positive. So, you’re safe. Go ahead and try it out, it’s great!

game works fine except im sure i tried every choice combination at least once and im not getting the complete ending, i dont suppose someone can subtle inform me what the choices should be?
There are only eight possible paths, so experiment a little more. Feel free to use the 50 provided save slots and the Skip function to help you do so. You have gotten the full ending when the Extra menus are filled in completely.

Haha, it took a bit of time for me too to get the true ending. I went through 7 paths and finally got it that time. It was worth it♥. I must say i feel stupid that it took me long time to get to it, if you put the choices in numbers then its uberly simple and made me say “Why didn’t i try that combination first?”

I tried this with Wine 1.2.2 on Ubuntu Lucid with japanese fonts installed, using the patches from the page you link. It seems to work well, but fonts are somewhat ugly painted, and they seem not aligned. I attach a screenshot. You can use gimp selection tool to confirm it (some glyphs are 1px upper than should). It is somewhat disturbing.

I copied all my Windows™ fonts to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts, and now it works perfect.

This is a false positive caused by the embedded version of ArcTool, which uses AutoIt, a scripting language sometimes wrongly detected as a virus. I personally assure you it is safe.

I tried installing the patchbut the installer doesn’t find the .exe file in my folder. I think that the problem is that I installed the re-release of the original game (product code: FUGURI-017). The exe file after installation is not “HANABIRA2.exe” but “HANA2.exe”.
Is there a way to install patch in this case?
The patch is currently not compatible with the remake version. I am working on an entirely new patcher to support both versions; as the encryption of the remake is entirely different from the previous release, the patcher must account for it. I have already had the translation updated courtesy of @fkeroge, so I must update the translation, recompile it for the remake script, and build a new patcher.

I heard that aside from the 1st and 2nd game, another title in the series was re-released in a similar improved version. Do you know if this is correct and if so what game this involves?
That is the remake of Joined in Love with You, the third visual novel, which was released in July 2010. The English patch supports both versions as they both use identical encryption.

Change your system locale to Japanese, use AppLocale to open the program, or relocate the folder to a path with Latin characters only. The patcher can do the latter automatically if it is run with administrator privileges.
