The original plan for this blog after the first translation patch release was to continue supporting it with analyses and discussion. However, that plan has been suspended multiple times in favor of the arguably more important task of enabling more fans to discuss more material by way of more patches and Music Box of Memories. At no time did I expect to go as far as I have this year. I now have no choice but to keep the momentum going for as long as I can.

Version 1.2 contains script corrections. If you already have version 1 or version 1.1, download one of the MSD only packages instead.
There is a glitch with the text engine that causes lines containing a heart graphic to clear prematurely if the Auto switch is enabled. The only known workaround is to exclude them entirely. If you want to use Auto and avoid this glitch, choose the No Hearts script type when prompted. You can switch between the Normal and No Hearts versions at any time by running the patcher again; it will not affect your save files.
Be sure to check out the message window mod if you want a smaller text box or no box at all.
Instructions
Get the game first if you don’t already have it: Kissing the Petal: The Joy of Loving You. Windows XP users will need to install East Asian language support as well. No further assistance will be provided for these steps. The translated game can also run under Linux using Wine after applying the fix posted here. If you install this patch under Linux, please post a report with your versions of Linux and Wine.
This patcher contains the translated script and graphics. It will work on both the disc and digital versions of both versions of the game. This patcher will overwrite program files directly, so make backups of HANABIRA5.exe, MSD, and MGD if you want to keep the original Japanese files.
It is recommended that you install the game with its own Setup first if possible. If you have administrative rights, the patcher will attempt to autodetect the game’s location in this order:
- Check for HANABIRA5.exe in the directory it was launched in. If the game is found here, it will perform one-click patching and not prompt for any information.
- Check the registry for information left by the game’s own installer. If the path in the registry is valid, you will be asked to move the files from the original Japanese path to an English path (see below).
- If registry information was not found, check C:\Program Files\ふぐり屋\その花びらにくちづけを あなたを好きな幸せ and C:\Program Files\‚Ó‚®‚艮\‚»‚̉Ԃтç‚É‚‚¿‚¯‚ð@‚ ‚È‚½‚ðD‚«‚ÈK‚¹ (the default path if the game was installed in an English locale). If HANABIRA5.exe is found in either of these places, you will be asked to move the files.
If the game is not found in any of these locations, the patcher will prompt you to point to the location of HANABIRA5.exe.
AppLocale Workaround
Patches to the EXE included in the patcher allow internal message boxes and the window caption to be displayed in English. As a side effect, you do not need to run the patched game with AppLocale or change your system locale. However, the game files must be in a directory without Japanese characters. If your system locale is non-Japanese, the patcher can move the files automatically (by default into C:\Program Files\Fuguriya\A Kiss For The Petals – The Joy Of Loving You). This is recommended only if you installed the game normally. You should also move them if the files are located in a path with Japanese characters, but it is not recommended or necessary otherwise. If the game was not installed normally and is in a path with Japanese characters, you should not move them into the default location. Because this workaround is not necessary in a Japanese locale, the option will not be available in that case. This is strictly for convenience and has no effect on the patch itself.
Shortcuts
After patching is finished, the patcher will then look for shortcuts in the Start Menu, Desktop, and Quick Launch and replace them with shortcuts that point to the new path if one was specified. Note that new shortcuts will not be created where they did not exist before and that they will only apply for the current user. The game’s installer places shortcuts in all profiles individually, and the patcher cannot account for these. Information in the registry, if it exists, will also be updated to point to the new path so that the game’s uninstaller will still work. Note that the uninstaller will not remove the new shortcuts. The patcher will not create an uninstaller of its own.
For Users Without Administrative Privileges
All of the above features are available only if you run the patcher as an administrator. If you run the patcher in a limited user profile, it cannot autodetect installations, write to the registry, or create or delete shortcuts. The patch’s contents are otherwise identical. If you can’t or won’t run the patcher as an administrator, download the noadmin build, but only if the normal version does not work.
Playing The Game
The patched game will work with your system file (CONFIG.SAV), so your options and Extra menu data will be preserved.
As in the previous games, if you make any wrong decisions in the branches, the game will prematurely end after the 12th section and you will see the message “Halfway END”. If this is the case, the game will return to the title screen without showing the credits. If you didn’t save often enough, you will need to restart the game from the beginning and make different choices. The Skip function will prove useful in this task.

As with My Dear Prince, the translated subtitle was borrowed from the English DLSite listing.
Hanabira-Kun has authorized us to produce this translation patch. This translation was created entirely from scratch without using any of their materials.
If possible, please buy the original game if you did not already. At writing, the retail price on English DLsite is ¥1,785, equivalent to approximately $23 USD/€16 EUR/£14 GBP. If you want to donate, please direct it to the developers instead by buying their products. I know a lot of people won’t even if I ask, but it’s worth a try to increase sales along with exposure.
I encourage all translators with an interest in this series to contact me if they want to try their hand at patching. I will assist in any way I can. I’m particularly interested in the light novels and drama CDs (especially the fourth one, which I currently can’t obtain legitimately or otherwise). Just make sure you can keep up with the strenuous pace that a full translation demands. If you’ve never done a translation for a visual novel before, it can and will take much longer than you think it will.

Question, I tried this, doing it the same way I used it for SonoHana 2, 3 and 4. But after I select the style, and install it, and get the all clear message, the game still uses that rather bad default window style.
Any known issues with it and SonoHana 5?

Same way I did it for the others. For those I did the MSD file, the only one that shows up as an option when I run the patcher.

I have a remark about one sentence :
“Why do i have to give you an answer you can accept anyway ?” : regarding the context, isnt it “can’t” (Reo don’t want to tell Mai what’s wrong).
In this instance, Reo is asking why she has to say something just to satisfy Mai, but she doesn’t want to say anything. Mai will not drop the issue until she gets an answer she can accept.
“I accidentally said something e/mbarrassing again.” : there’s a mistake the word “embarrassing” is cut.

This is a spacing error caused by an improper dash character. The script will be updated when I finish updating the patcher to carry multiple copies of the MSD (hearts and no hearts).

Another remark : Reo’s seiyuu name is not “Hana Anzu” but “Kyouka”.
This is a common misconception due to the kanji 杏花 being misinterpreted. Anzu Hana introduces herself as such in Reo-ppoi Radio, so I used that name in the credits.
I’m having problems with the patching…
The patcher crashes every time it hits the “ArcTool.exe” bit of the patching. I’ve tried re-installing and re-downloading the game 3 times now and I’m still having the exact same problem…
And no its not AVG this time around x.x

Your anti-virus software could be blocking the graphic patching process silently. Try disabling it completely before trying again.

before the error massage pop, the ArcTool.exe was crashing….
Ialready disable the antivirus though…
already solved it, I just change the MGD attribute file from read-only to normal
Install the game with its own installer to avoid this problem in the future.

You. Just. Rock. Seriously. When I came to know Hanabira, there were projects stared for each and every game and none of them was complete beside count pacula’s. People were trying to translate them individually. Then AXYPB arrived and the result is here : 4 games’ translations were released in about half a year even though some of had been stalling for months. I don’t know how you did it, but it is unbelievable
Now don’t take me wrong here : I know there are a lot more people involved in those translation projects than AXYPB and I also thank those people with my whole heart.I know form experience that translating is especially difficult and slow and AXYPB isn’t the one who does that. But it seems that he’s the spearhead of the translating effort and the one who manages to gather people and actually make it happen.
All of that to say : Thanks to every person who ever helped to release a Hanabira patch, and to AXYB in particular. Now, I’m going to play what seems to be an awesome game 8D

Hey, I am having some difficulties with the download, when it gets to about 1MB to 2MB, the download stops and it says its finished even though only about a quarter of the download is complete. I have been trying to download this all day, but the same thing keeps happening, even with the mirror download. Can you help?
This appears to be an issue with your internet connection. Are you using a download accelerator? Does this happen with any other sites?
Nope. I downloaded Hanabira 6 today and it went fine. Im also not using any download accelerators.
I even tryed clearing my browsers cache, but that work either.
I didn’t have any issues downloading it. Can you try using another browser?
I just tried twice on Firefox, it stops randomly too.

Hey, Im having some difficulties installing it. Im new to this so Im not quite sure on what to do. But anyways I get to “choose source location” and it I have to find a folder to choose.And I am kind of lost on what to do nxt I followed the instructions but Im still having a hard to time. The easiest way to use the patch is to move the patcher to the same folder that HANABIRA5.exe is located in.

Set the directory to the folder that contains HANABIRA5.EXE. For faster patching, move the patcher to the same folder as HANABIRA5.EXE and try again.
