Fanart: Sara x Kaede Table Turner

saraxkaede0001_by_brueldratia-d699nx2Yuriwhale has published the next “Table Turner” series of 4-koma strips starring Kaede and Sara. As before, the series is nine pages long. In the artist’s words, there is no speech in these strips, so anyone should be able to understand them. The series will be ten pages long and published in Bruel Dratia’s deviantART gallery. Note that the pages are in reverse order.

A Kiss For The Petals – Risa-Miya Theater Complete Release

The final version of Risa-Miya Theater is now available as a torrent file. These files are different than the previous releases on this site; all videos have been re-encoded, and the first five episodes have updated translations with quality check from Rika-chama and Virus123. In addition, several episodes have been manually edited to correct flaws in the source material. The individual download links on the previous release pages will be updated for the new versions. The videos on YouTube for episodes 1-5 will be replaced for the new translations; all episodes will be updated to include a link to this page.

Risa-Miya Theater (りさみや劇場 Risa Miya Gekijou) is a video series released by Yurin Yurin on YouTube between November and December of 2012 to promote A Kiss For The Petals – Maidens of Michael. Episodes 1-5 take place before Maidens of Michael, and episodes 6-10 take place after. The conclusion of episode 10 can also be seen as a prelude to A Kiss For The Petals – Lovers of the Atelier, the sequel to this visual novel. Despite this, these episodes are otherwise not directly related to the main story and are considered non-canonical. The English translation has been produced in collaboration with Yuri Project and edited to include a visual novel-style message window. English and Japanese subtitles are available, both of which mimic the text of the visual novel.

This episode takes place after Maidens of Michael and assumes that the viewer is familiar with the story of it. The series will be released on YouTube as well as on this website and Yuri Project in MKV format.

For the batch release, I have decided to re-encode the previous episodes to include additional QC from Rika-chama and Virus123 in the first five episodes, who joined the project after episode 5, as well as to correct flaws in the source material. These amended episodes will be available as a torrent and will replace the download links in the release posts.

Episodes will be collected in this YouTube playlist.

The MKV video file has two subtitle tracks – one including the English translation seen in the YouTube video, and another including the Japanese transcription on which it was based. The original videos did not have the message window from the visual novel A Kiss For The Petals – Maidens of Michael; it was encoded into the video by me. Please report any rendering issues to me if the text in the MKV file does not visually match the YouTube video, and all other issues in the Yuri Project thread.

Update 19 May 2013: The batch release is now available. See A Kiss For The Petals – Risa-Miya Theater Complete Release for more information.

Character analysis: Kitajima Kaede 北嶋楓

Peko, 7 February 2007

Introduction

This is an ongoing character study that I will update as new products and translations become available. Readers are encouraged to debate any points raised here, as it is entirely my conjecture.

The second visual novel in the A Kiss For The Petals series marks an attempt by Fuguriya to present a more serious storyline without diminishing the main appeal of their previous work. Kaede, the protagonist, is presented as a character in a troubled emotional state, in contrast to the generally enthusiastic protagonists before and after. This gives the story plenty of room for character development and as a result, Kaede is perhaps the most dynamic character in the series. There is much that can be explored in Kaede’s personality simply because she is an internally conflicted protagonist to an extent greater than all other protagonists in the series so far presented. From the start of My Dear Prince to the end of Beloved Photograph, her personality changes almost completely, thanks entirely to Sara’s involvement in her life.

This post contains spoilers for: A Kiss For The Petals – My Dear Prince, A Kiss For The Petals – Beloved Photograph

Reo-ppoi Radio Episode 43

YouTube user momoiro koneko has uploaded Reo-ppoi Radio 43 on their channel, which was originally uploaded on Nico Nico on 10 November 2012.  Uri Satsuki (Kitajima Sara) makes a brief appearance in the introduction to promote Maidens of Michael.

Several fan letters are read in this episode’s opening segment. The image from this episode is attached below. It is a bottle of Dodecamin Strong, an energy drink that Anzu Hana has seemingly chosen for today’s guest instead of Calpis Soda.

At 21:20, the Immigration Bureau accepts an unexpected applicant.

Of interest is the “Princess Reo and Prince Mai” segment at 25:12. Anzu Hana asks listeners to make a Wikipedia page for “yuri fantasy” (百合妄想 yuri mousou) to define the concept. The foundation given appears to be similar to the concept of “yuri goggles”, particularly relative to how fujoshi can see pairs of objects and events and mentally draw relationships conducive to boys’ love storylines. The example she gives is that of the love between a chair and the dividing screen in a recording studio. Suggestions can be sent to reoppoi_radiofuguriya.sakura.ne.jp (replacing the ★ with @) or in video comments.

Let’s Study Global Yuri~n Yuri~n is not featured in this episode, but you can send in yuri-related phrases in your native tongue to reoppoi_radiofuguriya.sakura.ne.jp (replacing the ★ with @) with the subject line 百合っぽいセリフ (English), with the language of the line you’re submitting changed accordingly. As for what constitutes a yuri-related phrase, no criteria was given. Simply use your own judgment as to what should be submitted.

Reo-ppoi Radio Episode 36

YouTube user nobuhiho has uploaded Reo-ppoi Radio 36 on their channel, which was originally uploaded on Nico Nico on 28 July 2012. In observation of the upcoming drama CD Kaede-chan’s Newlywed Cooking as well as Kaede’s SHK Election win, this episode is nicknamed “We Love Love Kaede-chan Radio” ~楓ちゃんスキスキらじお~. Unfortunately, although Uri Satsuki guest hosted as Sara in this episode, Gogyou Nazuna was unavailable. This episode contains information on Fuguriya’s Comiket 82 booth and the aforementioned drama CD to be released there.

The images from the introduction are attached below.

As mentioned in the previous episode, Anzu Hana called for foreign fans to mail in yuri-related phrases in foreign languages. The “Let’s Study Global Yuri~n Yuri~n” section debuts at 30:06 with a standard Japanese phrase.

Send in such phrases in your native tongue to reoppoi_radiofuguriya.sakura.ne.jp (replacing the ★ with @) with the subject line 百合っぽいセリフ (English), with the language of the line you’re submitting changed accordingly. As for what constitutes a yuri-related phrase, no criteria was given. Simply use your own judgment as to what should be submitted.

As a reminder, the deadline for the fifth SHK Election is the start of Comiket 82, which coincides with the next scheduled episode on around 11 August. See this post for the current standings and information on how to vote. Remember, multiple votes are allowed, but please vote responsibly.

Reo-ppoi Radio Episode 35 (Updated 19 July 2012)

YouTube user nobuhiho has uploaded Reo-ppoi Radio 35 on their channel, which was originally uploaded on Nico Nico on 14 July 2012. This episode is guest hosted by 京藤サナ Kyoudou Sana, the voice of the extra characters in the Takako/Runa visual novels, most notably the principal of St. Michael’s and Takako’s former senior high teacher. The introduction of this episode is especially notable as Anzu Hana greets the audience in multiple languages. They have received a number of letters from different countries, some of which were written as a result of the letters from America. It should be pointed out that while it is possible that these foreign letters were possibly influenced by my own to the point that she gives mention to me and The Marking Dude at least once this episode, it is not connected to the recent announcements regarding Yurin Yurin or any localization talks.

As Kaede was the winner of the fourth SHK Election, she will be featured in the next drama CD, to be released at Summer Comiket starting 10 August. In a previous episode, Reo discussed recording a theme song, which has been completed as the theme song from ミカエルの乙女たち and will also be released on a CD alongside a duet between Reo and Mai and a mini drama. Details of these CDs are pending.

The images from the introduction are attached below.

In addition, this image was seen in the conclusion. There was a surprise appearance at the end by Izumi Ayaka and Uri Satsuki, who were recording in a studio next door at the same time for a secret project.

Anzu Hana called for foreign fans to mail in yuri-related phrases in foreign languages. Send in such phrases in your native tongue to reoppoi_radiofuguriya.sakura.ne.jp (replacing the ★ with @) with the subject line 百合っぽいセリフ (English), with the language of the line you’re submitting changed accordingly. However, I would not advise bringing up the localization attempts in any letters to Reo-ppoi Radio at this time.

Update 19 July 2012: For those asking what constitutes a yuri-related phrase, no criteria was given. Simply use your own judgment as to what should be submitted.

This episode features the second Doreomon segment at 27:09. Stills of the photos during the opening discussion are attached below.

Reo-ppoi Radio Episode 33 (Updated 13 June 2012)

YouTube user nobuhiho has uploaded Reo-ppoi Radio 33 on their channel, which was originally uploaded on Nico Nico on 9 June 2012. This episode is guest hosted by Mai (Izumi Ayaka) and Sara (Uri Satsuki). Stills of the photos during the opening discussion are attached below. The first two show Satsuki with homemade cosplay pieces. The third is a confection featured at the end of the discussion.

The reference for the St. Michael’s Art Club was a deer head. The results were posted on Fuguriya’s update for this episode rather than in the episode itself. The drawings from left to right are those of Sara, Reo, and Mai.
