Reo-ppoi Radio Episode 68 (Updated 12 December 2013)

YouTube user momoiro koneko has uploaded Reo-ppoi Radio 68 on their channel, which was originally uploaded on Niconico on 23 November 2013. A pre-show was released the week prior. Manazuru Kou (Houraisen Rena) guest hosts once again.

The cold open for this show in the first thirty seconds of the video features Anzu Hana and Manazuru Kou discussing the more devoted fans of Sonohana (nicknamed “Mikajo-mates”). I discussed this segment with Tomino Nakiyoshi and Ralen and they gave two interpretations of it, respectively:

  • Kou states that she is so dedicated to the series that she once talked to Greg (me) on Twitter.
  • Kou makes a remark saying that if such a fan were asked about how much they like Sonohana, they could say “I like it so much that I talked to Greg on Twitter.”

Of course, it is quite unusual for this show to discuss my own Twitter activity, especially since I have no recollection of chatting with any cast member myself, on Twitter or otherwise (Reo-ppoi Radio letters notwithstanding). I am currently investigating precisely what she could have meant by this statement. At present I am led to believe that if they are following me, they are doing so in secret, either under an alias or manually. In any case, this statement may be implying that the staff (or at least Manazuru Kou and Anzu Hana) now considers me and/or my Twitter account to be synonymous with the most dedicated fan of A Kiss For The Petals.

Update 12 December 2013: After a thorough examination of my past Twitter activity, I could find no evidence that I have talked with any Sonohana cast members, unwittingly or otherwise. Episodes are normally recorded about a month ahead of their release, so I looked through my record of interactions from October and earlier. I’ve considered that one of my Japanese followers could be one in secret, and while some of them regularly retweet updates from Petals’ Garden, I’ve not had any Japanese Twitter users try to contact me directly for Sonohana discussion. In any case, given my conclusion above, I can only imagine what their response (if any) to my most recent letter will be.

This episode begins and ends with excerpts from Un-Reo-ish Radio – Summer 2013: karaoke performances of “Innocent Flower Fortune Telling” and “Twinkle Star Sweetie Star” by Anzu Hana.

In response to a number of fan letters asking about inconsistent details regarding the Angel series, the episode proper begins with a series of clarifications, two of which are retractions that have been previously reported here.

  • The title song for The Angel’s Longing is named “Darling Gonna”.
  • The title song for The Angels’ Spring Romance is named “Myakuhaku Ijou”.
  • The protagonist in The Angels’ Spring Romance is named Katakura Yuuno.

This is followed by fan letter readings, including one from me and a fan named Jessie, who wrote a letter in English. Anzu Hana requested information on American views of ideal yuri couples, and I am surveying visitors for contributions. See this post for details.

At 18:30, the would-be theme song for “Apron Angel Magical Reo” (エプロン天使マジカール玲緒 Apron Tenshi Magical Reo), a retired recurring segment within the Munya-Dora, is debuted. The song, titled simply “Apron Angel Reo”, is performed by Anzu Hana and Izumi Ayaka.

Of interest in this episode is one of the fan letter readings. One of the letters is from a Japanese fan studying English and suggested a segment in which the hosts attempt a translation of a sentence to and from English and Japanese. As a result, Anzu Hana and Mi Ei dissect a very strange English sentence in the below excerpt I’ve highlighted from their response to the letter at 12:16 – 15:15.

Mi Ei’s English pronunciation is surprisingly competent, even if accented. Ralen’s analysis of this segment follows.
